Volunteer Coordinator Spotlight Kristy Ready

Prayatna Sharma is a new and valuable member of our on site Volunteer Services Team. We recently sat down with Prayatna to discuss a few of her favourite things and what she is looking forward to about the festival.

What did you do prior to joining the festival?

I have mostly worked in customer service because I love interacting with people.

What are you most excited about in your role?

I genuinely enjoy festivals so working as a volunteer coordinator lets me talk about one of my favourite festivals and get people excited to volunteer for it!

What do you do for fun? I love to read, go on long drives listening to music, swim, dance, go to cafes and restos.

What might someone be surprised to know about you? I am an actor though not that big. Yet ;)

What’s your favourite summer pastime? I love going outside and enjoying the sun! The gentle warmth of the sun makes me feel like how in the movies in the end the main character feels like life is worth living again… hehe.

What makes Canada the best Country in the world? Can I say free health care haha.

What book are you currently reading? I am currently rereading Khaled Hosseini’s ‘And the mountains echoed’.

Have you ever participated in the greatest sport in the world, dragon boating? In an alternate universe, I participated but in this one I am merely a spectator so I don't make my team lose hahaha.

Your dragon boat springs a leak and strands you on a deserted island. What are your three must haves? Endless supply of food, outstanding survival and fighting skills. (The must haves don't have to be tangible objects right??)

Planes, Trains or Automobiles, and why? Planes. I’m in the clouds. What more could I ask for honestly.

Cats or Dogs? Both. (Cats)

What is your favourite:

  • Sport? I’m not really athletic but I love to watch anything I can understand haha

  • Concert? BTS, obviously!

  • Book? I read a lot so I don't have a favourite book since I love them all but my fave genres are suspense, thriller with a sprinkle of romance.

  • Movie? Same as above + action movies (despite being someone who loves love haha)

In closing, what would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering with the festival? Volunteering in general is a good thing but especially volunteering with the festival whose organizers believe in building a community where each and everyone feels seen, heard, and understood is a feeling that will stay with you forever.
