THE INSIDER'S GUIDE TO THE TIM HORTONS OTTAWA DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

Tuesday, June 12, 2018

Join us as we celebrate our 25th Summer, June 21-24 at Mooney’s Bay Park, for four days of racin’, Dragon Boat riding, gift buying, snack-eating, rockin’ n’ rollin’ summer time fun! Admission to the festival is free and, with something for everyone, will be the perfect way to start your summer off right. Kids will find a caravan of characters and bevy of fun activities in the free Scotiabank Family Fun Zone surrounding the Canada 150 Playground. Music enthusiasts and casual listeners alike can unite to rock along with one of the many live bands at the Rideau Carleton Raceway Casino Hillside Stage (Don’t worry it’s still at Mooney’s Bay). The foodies and shoppers in the family will be able to immerse their palates and fill their closets (respectively) with the diverse selection of local food and exhibitors. All the while everyone will be riveted by the skill and competition of the festival’s cornerstone; the relentlessly exhilarating dragon boat races!

What: 25th Tim Hortons Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival

When: Thursday, June 21 to Sunday June 24, 2018

Where: Mooney’s Bay Beach

Who: Dragon Boat teams from all over North America; 18 free concerts on the Rideau Carleton Raceway Casino Hilside Stage (Again, it’s at Mooney’s Bay, trust us) over 4 nights including headliners: Sam Roberts Band (Jun 21), Broken Social Scene (Jun 22), Wintersleep & Hollerado (Jun 23), and Matt Mays (Jun 24); a full Colonial Regiment, a cavalcade of Mascots and Costumed Characters, Dozens of Vendors and Exhibitors, and many more.

It All Begins…

Thursday, June 21 when the RCAF Pipes and Drums get the 4-day long party started when they lead the Parade of Champions into the Paddler’s Paradise beach tent to meet up with the Success Lions Dance Troupe and prior to the Festival’s official Opening Ceremony. The boats hit the water soon after with the ODBF Charity Challenge Cup Races. The evening will be highlighted by free concerts from M T. Walker, Amos the Transparent, Crown Lands, and 6-time Juno Award winner Sam Roberts Band.

Racing continues Saturday with teams battling it out in the bay to see who makes it to Sunday when they will race in the finals for championship glory. Saturday will also see a special lunch hour with the Breast Cancer Survivor Ceremonial Races and the accompanying Flower Ceremony.

The Scotiabank Family Fun Zone will keep families happy throughout the weekend with a full line-up of spectacular characters including: Mascots from Ottawa’s sports teams, visitors from a galaxy far far away…, an Ottawa Fire Services truck, Ghostbusters, a full colonial regiment straight from the War of 1812, and so much more.

Don’t forget your sunscreen, your water bottle to refill at the free hydration station, and your appetite to experience many of the local treats in the food and exhibitors areas.

The action comes to a spectacular finish on Sunday with the closing ceremony which begins at 4:00 pm where participants bask in the glory of having joined with other competitors in a fun filled competitive weekend.
