What is the Pledge Challenge?
The Pledge Challenge is an opportunity for our paddlers to raise funds for local charities. Money is raised on behalf of the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation and the Foundation then disperses its funds to the selected charities. In 2008, the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation will be supporting a total of eight local charities through a new, three-tier system. The following is a breakdown of the new tier system:
Tier One
Comprised of a single, larger charity, the organization selected for this level will receive $50,000. In 2008, the Tier One charity is the Sens Foundation’s charity of choice, Roger’s House.
Tier Two
A total of $25,000 will be disbursed to each of the three charities selected at this level. A joint application from two groups will mean that there are four organizations in this tier for 2008, they are: Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health, OCRI School Breakfast Program, Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Program.
Tier Three
The three charities at this level will each receive $10,000. In 2008, those charities are: Algonquin College Foundation, Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre, and the Good Day Workshop.
We invite you to learn more about our charities by visiting our Charities Page.
Our 2008 Pledge Challenge goal is $250,000.

What is the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation?
In 1998, a charitable component was added to the Ottawa Dragon Boat Race Festival raising funds for local charities on an annual basis. The Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation was established in 2003 to help focus and grow this necessary component of the Festival. To date over $1,230,000 has been raised through the annual Pledge Challenge and those funds have benefited 13 charities over the years.
The Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation is a registered charity and is lead by a dedicated board of directors. If you would like more information on the Foundation, please contact the Foundation Coordinator at (613) 238-7711 ext. 223 or click here to e-mail us (foundation@dragonboat.net.)
